Good morning. Not much to say about Biggest Loser this morning. The episode did not particularly impress me. Though I understand the reasoning and get that it’s a TV show, I was upset and annoyed that Maria had to be terrified into a panic attack, smash her face against concrete and hurt her fingers, just to complete a challenge. There are way too many safe ways to have a physical challenge. In the end, I was glad that she and Michael had substantial enough weight loss to stay another week. Selfishly, I’d like Michael to stay on the show long enough to get a makeover. I am anxious to see how he looks after a haircut. Lance and his wife earned immunity, so she turned to game play and gained a pound this week. In the end, when Patti and her daughter, Stephanie, fell below the yellow line Patti did what any good mom would do and asked the rest to keep her daughter on the show. It made me sad to hear that diabetes had already caused neuropathy in both of Patti’s feet, so I was glad to see her doing ballroom dancing with her husband and down 43 pounds. She is way too young to be in such and old body. When are people going to learn that being overweight is so much more than a vanity issue? Obesity is a MURDERER!
On a different note, I happened to be listening to the TV GUIDE channel while I was coming out of the shower yesterday. This being January, the “show” that was running was called Celebrity Workouts. Hosted by fitness poster-child, Denise Austin, the show took us through many of the biggest celebrities workouts. From Pilates and yoga to boot-camp and mixed martial arts, no two workouts were even similar to one another. The trainers shared their methodology with us and I was particularly in awe of the trainer doing the gym-less workout. No doubt I am a gym girl, but I LOVE the creativity involved in a workout that uses nothing but the good old outdoors. Using benches, logs, rocks , hills and anything else he could find in the environment for strength training and cardio, I wanted to jump into the TV and join him. Of course Denise mentioned that she has produced such a vast series of fitness videos, that anything that interests us can be found in that collection. My take away, from the segment, was exactly what I have always known. IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER WHICH WORKOUT YOU CHOOSE, YOU JUST HAVE TO DO IT WITH CONSISTENCY. Just like with food, there is no MIRACLE, just the plan that works for you and keeps you coming back for more. Cardio+strength training+flexibility work=THE PERFECT WORKOUT. PERIOD.
I want to thank those of you who keep coming back for more peaceandfitness. Your support is incredible and really feeds my desire to keep sharing the thoughts that continue to swirl around in my head. Thanks also for the breakfast suggestions which I will post in the next few days. I love the way the Internet connects those of us that are separated by countless miles.
My thoughts are with the people of Haiti this morning. Mother Nature is a force bigger than any other. I always respect and never doubt her power and abilities. 3 million people have been effected by the devastation of the largest earthquake to ever hit that country. I extend my heartfelt sympathy and hope to be able to help in some small way.

I, too, was quite distraught at the intensity level that Biggest Loser posed to the contestants last night. I totally understand that a challenge needs to be presented; however, when safety and well-being are compromised, then it becomes a bit sadistic. I was wincing in pain as I watched Maria and her situation. Although they met the weight challenge, I feel that the show “crossed the line” last night.
Thank YOU, Bonni, for being so creative at Tamarac Fitness. I grumble and mumble as you “mix up” many of the exercises with new ones BUT I do feel stronger and more flexible. That is what I truly aim for. I always leave your class feeling fulfilled AND challenged. You are keeping your finger on the pulse of the newest trends and our bodies appreciate (and need) that challenge. BRAVO!!

I was disappointed with BL last night also. Poor Maria – she really needed the one on one attention that Jillian gave her in the pool BEFORE the challenge. It was very painful to watch, you could actually see her fulfilling her fear that something bad would happen.
I understand game play and it is a smart idea to do what you can to insure that you stay on the ranch for as long as possible without compromising your integrity so I don’t disagree with what Melissa/Lance did, but I have to say that I’m not overly fond of the red team. She annoyed me last week and I’m having flashbacks to the Vicki/Brady season.
Patti did the right thing and sacrificed herself for her daughter – unlike Helen (winner from 2 seasons ago) who talked her daughter into going home so she could stay.
Oops – I seem to have turned this into a BL blog – Sorry 😉 I get carried away.
Bonni – class was awesome last night (both of them). THANK YOU

Thank you and no apologies on the biggest loser chat…i LOVE it…i feel exactly the same about the red team…something about melissa i just don’t like…and you make a great point about how jillian could have helped maria BEFORE…i realize to overcome the emotional aspects of obesity you have to treat “clients” in an extreme way, but why at the risk of getting hurt to the point that it could make things even worse??? frustrating to say the least…
Glad you enjoyed classes last night…I happened to be off all day yesterday and felt SO ready to get in there and work hard. I was so glad the gym was warm, too! (unlike this morning…brrrr) I know that by this afternoon the weather will be PERFECT.
Thanks again for being so supportive. Have a great day carolanne!
