Yesterday, before I even got to leave the house for my 9:15 gyno appointment, I had already learned that my dear friend Debbie’s most gorgeously furry cat, Nibby, had been diagnosed with feline Leukemia. I had also learned that Kyle had his beautiful (and expensive) bicycle stolen out of the bike rack in his condo complex in Tampa while he slept. Carol, who you all know as one of the faithful readers (and responders) on this blog had hers stolen out of her driveway just a couple of weeks ago. Come on people!!! While I quickly reminded Kyle that it is just a THING and it is replaceable, it’s still a horrible feeling to know someone else would take your things. As for Nibby, by the time I got to speak to Debbie again, he was already “over the bridge,” put down before he would have to endure any further pain. How I wish we would find a way to be that humane to people instead of watching them suffer and waste away from terminal and painful diseases.
Speaking of painful. Here’s a shout out to another regular here, my special friend, Rita, who is suffering with back pain as a result of over-doing her exercise! In her very positive way, she emailed me that this was just a little bump in the road of life. I reminded her yesterday, that every 6 months or so it is a really good idea to take a week off from exercising and let the body rest and reboot. Rita, I will miss you at the gym this week and wish you a very speedy recovery.
I have been spending time rolling on my body rolling ball and that has been helping relieve some stiffness in my own low back and hip. I forgot how much I LOVE body rolling. A self-massage, done with a special rubber ball, I first learned of this through a friend and co-worker. I then took a workshop at a Pilates Around the World Conference and was hooked! I returned home and purchased the video and ball on line. If you are interested in more information on this visit yamunabodyrolling.com or contact me!
For the locals reading this, I would like to let you know that my friend and neighbor, Hugo, just became the manager at Runner’s Depot in Heron Bay, ( Parkland). If you are needing new running gear, please keep this in mind and go in and ask for him. Tell him Bonni sent you. He and his wife just celebrated the graduation of their 2 sons, one with his masters and the other, his undergrad degree and so Hugo decided it was time to move on from recruitment and do something closer to his heart. Hugo is a serious runner and triathalete and knows his stuff!
So my gynecological visit went smoothly. I have been going to the same practice for many, many years, stumbling upon it through a student at the time, Linda, who happened to conveniently be married to a very local gynecologist. I no longer see Dr. Benjamin, but instead, the wonderful Nurse Practitioner, Sydney. If you happen to be reading this, Sydney, thanks for the candid conversation. Oh, the things that happen as we go through menopause! If you ever want to slide into one of my classes at Tamarac Fitness Center, just check out my schedule via the link on this page, and come on over. I would love to have you as my guest for an hour of Pilates/yoga fusion.
Tomorrow morning Mitch and I will be hosting a garage sale. We have been cleaning out the closets and kids old rooms and have found stuff EVERYWHERE! I WILL be at my 9:30 class. I may or may not blog, so if I don’t post in the morning, don’t get nervous.
Good luck with your garage sale. It always gives me a sense of accomplishment when I clean our STUFF that we no longer need. The house looks and feels happy, also!!
On another note, I am sure that this may benefit many of your “seasoned” students regarding working out in the gym or anywhere. As I watch BL and listen to you regarding challenging the body, how can one challenge the body and not (as my dr. told me just yesterday…) “over do it?” I know it must be a fine line; however, I do not want anyone out there to experience the lower back pain that I am having due to being careless with my work-outs. I take each class very seriously and I WANT to challenge myself sans any injury. Any suggestions that you can share with us will be greatly appreciated. I am not talking about the usual soreness and aches that we all get from our work out, I am speaking about debilitating, excruciating pain. (the kind that you had with your hamstring accident). You always offer us such sage advice on any type of fitness concern, so I am eager to hear what you have to say.
My “bump in the road of life” will be smoothed out, hopefully, within a week or two. I guess the sign next to my road is “Slow down!” 🙂
Sorry about all the losses-however you are right they can-with the exception of the cat-be replaced-just reminds us that troubled times brings out the worst in people.-See you at the Gym tomorrow-at least you will get away from the garage sale!
Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!
