This week left me little time to blog as we had some work done on the inside of our home, and we all know how that goes. Having the guest bathroom painted revealed some black mold and that required repair, moving the refrigerator caused the ice-line to crack (in 2 places) and we all know how that goes, too. Thankfully, we live across the street from Home Depot. I think we ended up buying all their light-bulbs and we still aren’t sure about the kitchen lighting!! Thankfully, we have a a fantastic duo of very handy painters and a next door neighbor who owns a top-notch plumbing company. Thanks, Steve, Zac, Lance and Jorge, for this morning, with everything put back together, we are very, very happy with the jobs that were done. If you are local and looking for a painter or a plumber let me know. I actually can recommend a few painters, depending on the job you need done. 2 of our closest friends are also painters…we just keep them out of our craziness 🙂
Going back to earlier in the week, most people were really unhappy with the BL makeover episode. Everyone I have spoken to agreed that neither Hannah or Irene belonged blond and that the dresses were mostly horrible. I have become aware that once you reach a certain age, losing too much weight will definitely require some plastic surgery to allow you to continue to look your age. I refuse to believe that Jay and I look the same age. Just refuse. Sorry, Jay. BUT, in all fairness, losing weight is so much more about health than looks. There is no question that all these contestants are SO MUCH healthier and hopefully happier than they were just 18 short weeks ago. I keep having feelings that Olivia will announce a pregnancy at the finale, which is now coming quickly!
Earlier in the week I posted a quote that I found on a public school friends Facebook wall. Turns out that quote went viral, after Osama was murdered. There is some controversy on how much of that quote was actually said by Martin Luther King. It was actually a couple of quotes bumped together, some of it definitely said by MLK, and as Judy said, it didn’t really matter who said it, it was well said! Certainly it expressed how I was feeling. I know my feeling were not necessarily echoed by all and we all have a right to our feelings. This was a big day in the history of the world…I do NOT however, believe for one minute, that killing Bin-Laden will resolve the terrorist issue, just as Hitler’s death never stopped anti-semitism.
I learned of a new diet this week watching Dr. Oz. The Dukan Diet. I loved the panel of three doctors and nutritionists who evaluated this diet which (of course) promotes high protein. It was a really challenging diet that I could never recommend. It was somewhat like Atkins, with 4 stages and a maintenance plan that allows you to eat everything you want, 6 days a week, once you have hit your goal weight. Right there, I am sure it could NEVER work!!! One on the panel gave it good marks for helping people know exactly what they could and couldn’t eat during the first 3 stages. A second gave it a 1 because he couldn’t give it anything lower. He suggested that any diet that eliminates fruit is a bad diet and any diet that has that much protein is lacking in all the important nutrients, antioxidants and disease fighters. The third on the panel, gave it a 5. While she did not agree with the diet, she felt that obese people are at a greater risk for disease and death, and ANY diet that would make them a healthy body weight would be better than none. I actually agree with her! While I avoid animal protein and truly believe I am eating a relatively healthful way, I have never been obese. Kind of like Biggest Loser–I don’t think extreme weight loss is the best way to get healthy, but it sure beats severe obesity.
Carol, I love that you get together regularly with your Weight-Watcher friends. Whatever you do, just keep doing it because it all works for you. If someone is looking for a great weight loss and maintenance story, talk to Carolanne!
Wednesday I taught my last classes at Bally and was forced to say good-bye to some of my favorite people in the world. Thankfully many will be joining me in Tamarac beginning this coming Monday. For those that can’t, my heart is broken, just please keep taking care of yourselves. We are sure to meet again! For those looking for more information on the classes in Tamarac, scroll back and read some of the entries that address this, generally written at the bottom of the blog, in italics.
Today’s paper had some great news about the pill-mill battle, here in Florida. Looks like Governor Scott will finally sign the bill that will help save lives every single day by stopping these legal pushers. I know we are still months away, but we are headed in the right direction. My guess is he was put against a wall Whatever works! Hats off to the ladies at stoppnow.com. Their work is NOT done and then have another peaceful rally scheduled for next week.
Today is National Comic Book day. You gotta love a “holiday” like that! If you live locally, Tates Comics in Lauderhill is giving away 5 free comic books to anyone who goes there today. I am going to be sure to let Derek know. I bet he and his friends will be stopping in. Tate’s has a great history. When Tate was too young to have his own, his dad opened this store which has been around for a lot of years, now. My kids grew up shopping at Tates and I am always happy to hear his doors are still open.
Time to hit the gym. You? Where will you be getting you piece of fitness, today?
