“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.”
Isak Dineson
Always attempting to “use” Sundays as a day of restoration, recuperation, rejuvenation and finally, preparation for the week to come, my dream Sunday is one filled with NO errands, NO appointments and as little responsibility as possible. What I do make time for is rest, relaxation and good, clean food! There was a time in my life (which lasted about a decade or so) that I worked 7 days a week. Since my business is not quite full-time, I was easily able to justify keeping that schedule. Now, I realize how important a rest day is for the body, the mind and the soul. Since I have experienced the yang and now the yin of Sundays, I am totally committed to the yin!
Yesterday Mitch and I went down to the beach for a dose of the ocean. The sky was stormy so we didn’t have to worry about too much sun, which was perfect for floating and swimming and just BEING in the ocean! I am pretty sure salt water is good for EVERYTHING! The ocean, in fact, is a mystical force of life. It soothes and relaxes aching muscles but no more than it soothes and relaxes the mind. While at the ocean, every sense becomes strongly involved with the experience. The sound, the smell, the taste, the feel and last but definitely not least, the gorgeously awesome view, all serve as natural curatives to day to day life!
Once we got home, the sky opened up and the rain came down in buckets, which was welcomed and appreciated. No need to water the overly thirsty lawn, thanks to Mother Nature. Thanks, again, to Mother Nature for a huge garden salad, complete with all the colors of the rainbow. Mitch cooked up some clams and I even tasted a few as well as his Ahi tuna. Though most all the time I am avoiding the animal products, occasionally something “calls” me and I find a taste will usually satisfy me! Remembering that I am NOT allergic to these foods, keeps me flexible and reminds me that life is all about CHOICE!
And now here it is Monday morning. I am ready to get started on my work week with renewed strength and enthusiasm. If I close my eyes and can engage all my senses and recapture the peacefulness of yesterday. We ALL need to find our peace and savor it, so we can get through whatever challenges our days hold. Today I hope you will give some thought to where you find YOUR peace and how you can get more of it! Remember, life is all about the journey!
