Which Machines Will You be Using Today?

Today I will be out training this morning and at the gym for 6 and 7 pm classes tonight.  It was nice to come home from a few days away to find the gym renovations have begun!  If you hate coming  out in the night because it’s dark, I am happy to say that is no longer an excuse!

Somewhere in between my morning and evening session, I will complete the most important exercise of the day, exercising my right to vote.  If you live in Florida or any of the other states that vote today, I hope you will be out there doing the same.  Regardless of your choice, this is the most important exercise we can do today.  And the other stuff, too!

Just a Quick Update

Class schedule will remain as usual this week, with the exception of Saturday.  There will be no class Saturday morning, March 12.

March-ing into Super Tuesday and Exercising our Rights!

Here it is the 1st of March and Super Tuesday as well.  It sure IS a SUPER Tuesday–weather, training, friends, all SUPER!

As for the political aspect of super Tuesday, I was raised to believe that some things are best left kept to oneself.  Talks about religion, money and politics are at the top of that list.  Certainly I do my fair share of talking about all 3 of those things, but I am working really hard at trying to keep my OPINIONS to myself as much as possible.  We can agree to disagree but the SLANTED info (on all sides of the political spectrum) that is appearing on Facebook is really cutting into all of our PEACE—so personally I am spending A LOT less time on the good Book for now.   As with all things in life, I just hope people will do their OWN research.  If we only get our info from SLANTED publications and news sources, we cannot possibly be accurately informed.  I will continue to do mine and make the choices that I feel best reflect my own values.  Checking out things you read on social media before re-posting is a great gift to give your “friends and followers.”

As for my students, you can talk as much as you want among yourselves but please don’t get upset when I refuse to get into political conversations.  I find it will be the best way for us to all continue with the love-fest we have at the gym!

And speaking of the gym…I did get to meet Ihab, our new owner, yesterday.  If you are a student/member and you haven’t met him yet, you will know who he is immediately upon sight, when I say he is a serious bodybuilder!  He seems eager to “build” on all that is already working at the gym…pun intended.  I remain very optimistic on all levels and I will keep you informed.

If you are a Tuesday night student of either or both classes I hope to see you at the gym tonight, where I am sure, you, too will meet Ihab  (rhymes with rehab).  At 6:00 will will work up a SUPER sweat and at 7pm yoga/Pilates will find us celebrating March and all that is reborn in this month when winter turns to spring….Thanks to all my students for your incredible support during this transition.  You are all SUPER SUPER!

Let’s all get out there and exercise our bodies, our minds and of course our right to vote, today or whenever your opportunity is.  If you don’t believe voting is a privilege, ask anyone who has lost (or never had) this right!

Leaping into This Last Monday of February

Here it is Monday, again.  In our house, we are coming off of a great weekend with great friends in from out of town.  Thank you Mother Nature for the gift of AMAZING weather which allowed us to tour the Morakami Gardens, walk on the beautiful beach and spend a lot of time sitting outside and just enjoying being together.

For those asking about the gym, as I have said before, I am expecting business as usual, at least for the immediate.  I will be at there for my regularly scheduled classes today and all week and am expecting any changes to be gradual, though I really have no idea what our new owner has in mind.  I look forward to meeting him this week, as he takes over ownership of the gym, tomorrow.  Hoping all my students have their membership card in hand.  Please remember to show them at the front desk.  All SilverSneakers members will swipe their cards upon arrival, each visit to the gym.

While I just touched on it last week, I would like to once again thank Ron and Wendie for the great opportunity they gave me over the past 28 or so years.  Teaching seniors was something that Ron and his dad Howard believed in from the start.  8:30 in the morning classes were packed with some of my favorite people, including my mom who LOVED her aerobics.  Some of my same students who were seniors then are STILL in my classes, almost 30 years later.  Adding weight training classes, Pilates, yoga and SilverSneakers along the way, I appreciate the free reign I was given to bring to the members what I knew would benefit them physically, mentally and spiritually….and that is exactly what I intend to keep on doing.   While I plunge into the change, I am committed to continuing to bring you the same level of peaceandfitness as I always have.  Ron and Wendie, I wish you all good things as you enter this next phase of life and move closer to retirement!

Wherever YOU are, I always hope that you are making fitness, and peace a part of each day.  Take this “extra” day and make it a great one!

 

Give Me Fuel Give Me Fire…………

It’s been too long since I have posted.  Today, inspired by the breeze and how it impacted my morning run (jog) –I decided to update the site, discard spam, check on comments and ramble random thoughts, so here’s the random thoughts and tidbits.

http://images.clipartpanda.com/people-running-away-clipart-man_running_2.gifLots of things effect our output when working out.  The cooler weather, breeze, frustration after waiting too long for a service worker and maybe even going on an empty (water of course, and coffee–of course) stomach, I had a faster, easy and more enjoyable run than usual.  IF YOU ARE HAPPY, SAD, EXCITED, MAD, FRUSTRATED, ANXIOUS, HEARTBROKEN  (and all the rest) use your energy positively and invest it in your workout.  It ALWAYS (and all ways) pays off!  A good workout will do wonders for your mental and physical well being.  That is why NIKE says…”just do it!”

It also helps to go in with a “cleaner” body.  Since all I had was a little red wine last night before dinner, I am sure my body was sharper than say, Sunday morning, when I ran after a couple of Saturday night cocktails.  I still pushed out 4 miles that morning, but much more slowly and with much more effort.  Cause and effect.

Speaking of alcohol, I found it quite interesting that it’s been all over the news that studies show when we drink when we are pregnant, it’s poses significant risk to our offspring.  Only interesting in that this is definitely not news.  It’s been 30ish years since my pregnancies and studies clearly showed this, then.  I guess what’s newsworthy is that the studies reveal the same risks now as they did then…and the take-away is that there is NO SUCH THING as moderate drinking when we are bringing another person into the world.  Sacrifice for our children begins even before they are born, but boy(s) is it worth it!

Once again, I am carrying the two petitions (solar energy and medical marijuana) with me almost everywhere.  I am not allowing them to get in the way of any workout time, so make sure to see me before or after class if you are a student who has wanted to sign them and hasn’t yet.  If seems like most of my students have signed them and interestingly they have been even most anxious to sign the medical marijuana petitions.  Many of my students are over 65 and the personal stories they have been sharing with me regarding this issue are spectacular!  My students DEFINITELY teach me more than I could ever teach them.  Remember these signatures are just to get these issues on our next ballot so we can vote on them.

I won’t be driving my car to the gym tonight so if you are reading this and coming to class, (tomorrow, too)  please don’t look in the parking lot and think I am not there!   7pm class will continue to put the emphasis on the principles of Pilates.  We have covered breathing and concentration.  Tonight we will move into centering.   We will continue this series for a few more weeks, always working yoga in, just like Joseph himself did.

Studies area also confirming that the more time we sit, the less years we live!  So on that note, I am getting up from my desk.  You may want to do the same.  A five minute break is productive and healthy! Repeat hourly.

Remember, treat your body like the temple it most certainly is.  When we love and respect ourselves, it is only natural that we treat others in the same manner.

Speak Up!

Good morning and welcome to September.  No matter how old I (or my kids) get, I will always feel that sinking feeling of summer on it’s way out (even here in South Florida) and the school year back in.  But it is back to school time for all of us, and life, after all, is one big learning experience!

Today I will be subbing for Ellen at 10 (SilverSneakers) and back tonight for regular 6 and 7 pm classes….

We will be moving up the chakra line during 7 o’clock yoga/Pilates fusion class.  Tonight we will focus on the 5th chakra, the all important throat chakra, which is visualized as a beautiful shade of blue.  Feel free to wear blue, and as always bring anything that will make your practice more comfortable (pillows, eye masks, straps, blocks).

Monday August 31, Gym Schedule

I will continue to post but at this point I am scheduled for all my regular classes and all of Ellen’s SilverSneakers classes until she returns to the gym on Thursday the 10th.

Remember there is NO 11:30 am Senior Strength Training class on Tuesdays at this time.

Schedule of Classes at TFC This Week

This one is for my students…….

I will be teaching all my regularly scheduled classes this week (Monday – Saturday) and additionally I will be subbing for Ellen at 10 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Friday morning there will be NO Low Impact at 8:30 and NO SilverSneakers at 10–those are the only 2 classes of Ellen’s that I am unable to sub this week (so if you want to get in a SS class this Friday the 13th, come on in at 11:30)

It’s been nice seeing classes so full since the new year!  Keep up your resolutions.  When it get’s tough staying with them, remember why you made them in the first place!!!!  You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to be the best you possible!

Live Each Season

Today is the last day of summer and also the day we celebrate regional Swanson Award winner, Charlotte B.  For those coming, the celebration begins at about 12:45.  I have a regular work day wrapped around this and that does include the 11:30 SilverSneakers class which we will end just a little early to get the room reorganized.  There will be some light food and cake and we will raffle off some SilverSneakers t-shirts.  There will be a rep from SilverSneakers presenting Charlotte with her award and a rep from Humana as well.  I wrote a little “ditty” that I will be reading to Charlotte and I am sure she will have some words to share with the group as well.  Since we only have 50 chairs, I expect a lot of “standing room only.”  Congrats to Charlotte and all the nominees as well as Grace, in Arizona, who won the National Award.

Tomorrow is the first full day of fall and I leave you with this quote by Henry David Thoreau:

If anyone local needs CPR/or CPR renewal let me know today.  Tomorrow at 11 an instructor will be coming to Tamarac Fitness Center so Ellen and I can renew ours.  Remember, the life you save may be the most important person in your life!   CPR is generally used at home with our loved ones and everyone should know how to perform it!The fee is $40.00 (cash)and it should take just a couple of well spent hours.  I am sure if you just show up by 11 with your cash you can join us.  7935 West McNab Road.  (Between University and Pine Island.)

Also, remember that Charlotte’s Swanson Award presentation and party is on this Monday, the 22nd at 12:45.  It is also at the above address.  If you are a student of mine in ANY class, come on out and help celebrate and see what the new 95 is!
