It is said that Joseph Pilates called child’s pose, a little slice of heaven, for in the midst of a workout, it is just that. In the midst of a hot summer day, I am thinking a slice of watermelon is also a slice of heaven. Consisting of 92% water, it is one of the most refreshing ways to hydrate on a hot, summer day. Not only is it refreshing and sweet but it has beta-carotene and flavonoids that reduce sunburn and skin damage caused by UV-B rays. It also has lycopene, a powerful antioxidant known for fighting inflammation and promoting cardiovascular health. Packed with vitamins A and C, you can also cut some up and mash it in a shaker with the back of a spoon and add then fill the shaker with water, shake and pour over a glass of ice. You can add some fresh lime slices and mint leaves to make it into a the perfect summer drink for the whole family. Or add some vodka for the grown ups! However you enjoy it, it will be a little slice of heaven, so make sure to include watermelon to your weekly summer grocery shopping list.

Hi Bonni. I wish I could have some watermelon, but fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), I’m in Hawaii right now and there are no watermelons. Lilikois though, those are good. 🙂
You forgot to mention that watermelon is also alkalizing. My mom is always harping on the alkalizing foods, such as watermelon.
Stay well.
