Someone asked me how I can always be so positive. I am not, but I do work hard at seeing the good and putting a positive spin on whatever I can. On September 12, 2001 I wondered how I could go to the gym and teach a silly exercise class, while listening to loud, aerobic music. It seemed so trivial and wrong after what had happened just one day before.
Quickly I realized, what I could do was to try my hardest to add a little light to a very dark period in our lives. If I could offer an opportunity to give my students and clients a little control over their own bodies and minds, if I could offer an hour of distraction from the news clips that we saw over and over again, if I could just offer a kind word, an ear, or a smile, then I could make some sense out of my work. So we took a break from crying to sing and dance through cardio classes and we meditated on all things positive at the end of Pilates classes and somehow, together, we made it through a very sad time.
Forever changed, I realized putting a positive spin on life and bringing it out into the world, was the best gift I could give myself, my family and those that I encounter each day through work and play. When Kyle encouraged me to start a website I realized it was my opportunity to blog about all things and yes, there are MANY things that disturb and anger me, even in the world of health and fitness. MANY.
But complaining begets complaining as anger and hate beget anger and hate. How unproductive of me to even mention those things. Complaining, anger, hate…they NEVER lead to peace. Anger, in fact, “does more to the vessel it is stored in, than it does to the object it is poured upon”.
Every day we are faced with choices. We can be happy or we can be sad. We can take control of our bodies and our minds, or we can let the world control us. We can choose to be negative, or we can choose to be positive. I positively choose to be positive. I hope that you will, too!
Wishing you a day filled with positivity and peace.
