Back pain is a fact of life.  Sure, some suffer more than others and no two back problems are exactly the same, with over 100 muscles that criss-cross, layer and do a multitude of different jobs.  Back pain can be extremely debilitating and watching the Olympics, I was quite impressed to watch USA swimmer, Lauren Perdue,  participate in the preliminary heat of the women’s 4X200 meter freestyle relay, just 4 months after back surgery.  In fact, for most back problems, lounging on the couch, especially for prolonged periods, is about the worst thing one can do for their back pain.  Inactivity increases stiffness and over time weakens the muscles making them more prone to injury and pain.  Low-impact activities like walking  or swimming are the best options.  Vegging out on the couch…worst option….

Yeah – vegging out on the couch is generally the worst option for almost everything 😉
