What?  Between work, caring for loved ones, squeezing in workouts, shopping and preparing for holidays, guests and travel you just can't find time to meditate?  Mark Thorton, who wrote "Meditation in a New York Minute," makes these great suggestions, just for YOU:

START BY NOTICING SENSATIONS. Listen to the sound of the water, notice the fragrances of soaps and shampoos.  How do your shoulders, neck, legs and arms feel as you bathe them?  Try to widen your attention and experience all the sensations at once.

MAKE A CONSCIOUS DECISION TO TAKE A COMPLETE BREAK FROM YOUR MIND. If you're bombarded by thoughts, choose to return to them later.

TRY TAI CHI SHOWERING. Move your body in slow motion and notice the sensations.

SING! Notice the vibration in your throat, your chest and other body parts.

While these are all great suggestions and I highly recommend them, don't limit yourself to the above.  I have been suggesting people take an extra minute when they pull into a parking spot (anywhere) and just take a few deep breaths before moving on to that next event.   Remember that "your mind is a muscle you can train and meditation is the tool used to focus it or quiet it down."  Tamara Gerlach, as San Francisco-based student and teacher of meditation likens the mind to a jar of dirty water.  "Keep shaking the jar - or your head- and it will remain clouded.  But if we set the jar down, letting the dirt particles settle to the bottom, it leaves clarity at the top."  Her analogy helps us understand that it only takes a "New York minute," to sort the dirt away from the clarity.  Taking advantage of a minute here or there will go a long way towards clearing your own "jar."

Once again, congrats to Nicole on her graduation from USF, this past Saturday.  Congrats, also, to our  Miami Dolphins on their win against the New York Jets, yesterday.  Sorry to my boy, Jason Taylor.  He can wear 99 here, or there, he will still always be my favorite.  BUT the win was great for our Miami boys. I am still, however, having a really, really hard time believing that one of the coaches along the Jet's sideline, "tripped" one of our players! I wonder how well he played with others, when growing up.  BULLY!  That should have cost them the game, anyway.

Have a magnificent Monday.  Be kind to yourself and one another.

TOMORROW NIGHT--BIGGEST LOSER SEASON 10 FINALE!  I can hardly wait.
