Got Milk?

What do you reach for immediately after your workout, when a quick shot of  protein is so important for the muscle repair process?  While there are lots of high-quality proteins rich in branched-chain amino acids, most of them are not digested quickly enough.  A protein shake is a GREAT way to get that quick shot, but if you are also looking to lose weight you need to control the calories, so beware of those shakes that you don’t make yourself, or don’t know the nutritional and calorie content of…and instead, keep it simple and just “get milk”.  A glass of skimmed or soy milk (I am not sure about almond milk, on this one) will reach your muscles in half the time a steak or eggs (or probably even tofu) will.  So no need to get fancy or buy expensive sports drinks.  Keep it quick and simple and your muscles will say thank you. And remember, unless you are looking to be a body builder (and maybe even then) you probably don’t need as much protein in your daily diet as you might think, so do your homework and check many sources!

Get out there and make your Monday, matter.
