Get Out, to Go In.

April 18, 2010 by Bonni

“I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.”

– John Muir Preservationist 1838-1914

Since Earth Day is this week, I wanted to put up a quote that would inspire us to start thinking about what we can do to be a little greener.  I found this quote in my search and all though it didn’t scream reduce, reuse,or recyle, it really made me think.  Remember being young and staying outside for endless hours?  I certainly do.  Remember the carefree feeling that went along with those endless hours?

This particular quote makes me think maybe we all need a little more of  this carefree time in our lives.  Perhaps getting out and bonding with one’s self,  another,  others–or simply bonding with Mother Nature, herself, would find us more caring about our environment and more in tune with our own souls.  I had thought about less paper goods and making a vegan feast this week with food that comes directly from Mother Nature, herself, but I honestly had not thought about anything as simple, yet deep as this.

So now I am going to put Blaze on his leash and take my decaf and newspaper out in the yard.  Blaze and I can sit by the canal and hang out with the fish, the turtles, the birds and even the brand new baby duck family.  I am so there, for in going out, I am bound to also “go in.”

What a profound quotation. Yes, “going out” is truly “going in.” My happiest moments are sitting outside on our patio gazing and listening to nature. Of course, my favorite spot in the entire world is the beach…..right down Commerical Blvd. We are so lucky that we can enjoy this wonderful natural site within minutes. Nature has so much to offer us……especially peace! Enjoy the day!

    “the beach…..right down Commercial Blvd”…
My mom loved it there too! (I think that’s where she used to take me)….

I just got ‘in’ but am going ‘out’ shortly…

The only thing that stays the same … is change.

Since I just got my new bike – I’m challenging myself to accomplish 1 thing each week using my bike that I would have used my car for.
