Thanks for stopping in. I am grateful for YOU! Have a fantastic Thursday and remember to stop and give thanks for the multitude of blessings in your life. They are always there, you just have to stop and honor them and they will become much more apparent. Most of us really do have more than enough.

Thanks, Carol, sharing this great link below, which gives us the current status of a few dozen Biggest Loser contestants. Most of those included on the list were from 2008 and 2009 (just a few from earlier seasons). GO ALI. She was a force to be reckoned with from the start and seems to be doing better than most. Now I have to wonder about ALL the people NOT on the list. Maintaining weight loss is so much more challenging than losing the weight in the first place…hint, hint, Carol. I always applaud Carol for keeping those pounds off and I applaud all of you for your efforts to reach and maintain a healthy weight. It has become more and more obvious to me that a healthy weight combined with healthful eating and an (almost) daily exercise routine, seems to be the surest way to wellness.
But don’t believe it because I said it. You really can’t believe everything you read, (or hear on TV, radio or the Internet!) Do your own research and be your own guinea pig. Switch up your eating and exercise for a few weeks and then get some blood work done. After about 6 weeks of healthy eating and exercising you should see most of your numbers come down.. cholesterol, blood pressure, heart rate, glucose and of course weight and inches. In as much as I read this, it is because I see it daily in my students that I know it is true. The best part of my job is when people come tell me they have reduced their medication, or they sleep better, or the pain in their leg, hip, back, etc., has gone away. Thank you for sharing your stories with me. Those stories help me spread the word.
Here’s the link mentioned above. https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tKvmov2AsFLGggtzMd41mww&single=true&gid=0&output=html
Thanks to all that came out for our first YogaStretch class yesterday. I think you all did really well, especially knowing that some of you had never taken any type of yoga class before. I look forward to growing our yoga practice together.
I refuse to comment on the Casey Anthony case except to say that I am glad that I live in a country that allows for a jury, and share this quote, by the genius himself, Mr. Einstein, which really sums up how I feel and remember that NOT GUILTY does not equate with INNOCENCE. Since I was not on the jury, I clearly have NO business judging.
“Let every man judge according to his own standards, but what he himself read, not by what others tell him.”
Getting to the Root of Things

Welcome back to reality. Nothing like a long, holiday weekend to refresh, repair and rejuvenate. Thanks to Shelli and Al for hosting a fun Saturday night with the “appetizer,” group. Thanks to Mother Nature for a weekend filled with sun, sand and lots of water. From the ocean, to the pool and the periodic rainstorms, water was plentiful. Thanks to Mother Nature, too, for lots of seasonal, fresh, inexpensive veggies and fruits and thanks to Rescue Remedy for making last night’s fireworks a little (just a little) more survivable for my bigredguy.
Last night, I tried, for the second time, Tofu Shirataki noodles. Shirataki is a pasta alternative made from blending the root of the konnyaku (a member of the yam family) and tofu. Very low in carbs, and only 20 calories is a 4 ounce serving, with no cholesterol or sugar and gluten, dairy and animal free, these noodles make a decent substitute for pasta. Decent. The first time I tried them they were overcooked, I think and definitely a little too chewy. Last night I tried the already cooked kind and just poured boiling water over them to heat. They were a little less chewy. I cut up leftover veggies and mixed them in with the noodles, added a little Earth Balance (butter substitute) and sprinkled some nutritional yeast on top. They were decent, filling and the best part was the entire plate couldn’t have contained more than about 100 calories. I haven’t tried them with marinara sauce, yet, but bet they would be good that way, or even better as part of a recipe for something like soup! They can be found in Whole Foods near the tofu blocks, or in the produce section of Publix, near the Chinese vegetables. I am sure they are available in YOUR grocery store, as well. I am NOT saying oooh they are so good, just very low in calories and filling, which is sometimes more important than anything else!
With a busy Tuesday ahead, today marks the first SilverSneakers YogaStretch class at TFC. 11:30-12:30, this morning and every Tuesday morning. Yoga is a Sanskrit word derived from the Sanskrit root “yuj” which means to connect, join or balance. If you have or haven’t taken yoga before, come with NO preconceived expectations and an open mind and heart. At the end of the hour your body and mind will hopefully both be more open and simply saying “ahhhhh.”
